Long Way Home is the fifty-second episode of the Natsume Yuujinchou anime. It first aired on March 26, 2012. It is the thirteenth and last episode for Natsume Yuujinchou Shi, which is the fourth season of the anime.
Summary
Natsume is taken adrift into the memories of his childhood with his close relatives. As a young boy, he was scared of all the Youkai that appeared around him, and his reactions were thought of as weird by classmates. The daughter of the parents who took in Natsume was always being teased for "living under the same roof" as Natsume.
Because of this, Miyoko grew to dislike him, even going as far as telling him to go to back to his real house. This cry made him wonder where his real house was, resulting with him searching for it, but in the end, he was not able to find it due to many circumstances which made him fatigued both physically and emotionally.
The bug-eating youkai persists on eating Natsume's bad memories and soul, but he views these bad memories as precious elements to his current self, as they've shaped him to the person he is now. With all the will he had, Natsume forces the Youkai out, which is eaten by Madara.
After a short recovery, Natsume heads to his old home, with directions given to him from long time ago, and reaches a small house that has "Natsume" written at the front. Fragments of memories, both good and bad, return to him as he looks around the house. Now late in the day, Natsume goes to the relatives' house to return the keys to his old house, and he heads home. Upon arriving at his current home, he is warmly welcomed by Touko and Shigeru.
The day next or after, Natsume along with his male friends went searching for the soda water again, but they are lost at a fork in the road. With the help of some talking Youkai who pass by him, Natsume "suggests" that the soda water is to their right, which ends up correct. Yet, at their destination, Taki and Sasada are already there, as they looked up this location also. While Natusme and all his friends try out the soda water, some of Natsume's Youkai friends look from afar from the shrubbery.
Later on, Natsume, Touko and Shigeru takes a family photo at their house. After taking one, Natsume suggests taking another with Nyanko-sensei included. They agree and they take it.
